Hi! I’m Nicole. Mom of 4. Wife to 1. Your resident special education advocate. If I’m not busy advocating, I’m likely spending it with my family on a sports field, cheer mat, swimming, doing pretty much anything outdoors or cuddled up watching a super hero movie. (Super heros are the one genre the whole family can agree on!) I’d prefer to dance in the kitchen rather than cook and if you show up to my house with taco’s… well let’s just say you’ve got a friend for life. I’m a mom to 4 kids with IEP’s, I was late-in-life diagnosed with ADHD and we are living our best sensory overwhelmed, constantly moving, neurodivergent lives over here. 

Believe me when I tell you… we’ve been on quite the roller coaster ride through special education land. It’s been a hard journey that led me to a career in advocacy and I can honestly say I have the best job ever. 

Years back, my oldest son was struggling at school, needed more support, but wasn’t getting it, was labeled “that kid” and I felt like I was begging, and shouting and crying for help, but it wasn’t happening. I won’t speak to his journey, because it’s his, by my journey as his mom and advocate was honestly traumatic. With a background in education, (and a nerdy lifetime of special interest love for special education) I really thought I knew what needed to be in the IEP. But when things got hard, and I got emotional, I was left feeling bullied, intimidated, gaslit and confused. 

Once the dust settled, the situation got me thinking about you. I’ve always strived to help people so I got to thinking… If I felt this way, other parents did too. And I knew I could help.

So here I am. Ready to serve. I want to give back to families like mine so that no one else feels alone or lost like we did.
